Drugs that lower “bad” or LDL cholesterol fall into a class called statins. You may have heard of them, you may be taking one. It’s hard to have missed them if you watch television or read popular magazines because their manufacturers spend big bucks to deliver the message that you can lower your cholesterol with one of these drugs.
And you can, never mind the side effects, one of which is that not only do these drugs lower LDL but since they don’t discriminate they also lower HDL, or “good” cholesterol.
But I’m not here to rant on the drug companies, and my next post will talk a bit about the whole LDL lowering concept and the debate that rages around it.
I do want you to know that if you take a statin drug you would do well to supplement with a safe supplement called CoQ10. This vitamin-like substance is produced in the body and is necessary for generating up to 95% of total energy for our bodies. The same mechanism by which statins limit production of cholesterol also limits the production of CoQ10. In Germany and Japan all statin prescriptions are given with the recommendation to supplement with 200 mgs of CoQ10 daily.
Why not here in the states?
Today started at 7 am with a fit and perky 30-something named JJ who took us through an hour of “No Excuses” exercise. No equipment, gym, or much of anything but a body required and boy did it work me out.
We did jumping jacks, squats, kick boxing kicks and some isometric exercises. Nothing fancy or new but it worked to get us sweating and fatigue a few muscles and remind me that I can always get moving regardless of where I am.
Later on we had a live performance by Steve Halpern who is the largest seller of New Age and Healing Sound CDs. Not everyone’s cup of green tea I suspect but the man is so interesting not to mention skilled at the piano which he played with reverence. He explained how powerful sound is and how all sound–whether we are aware of it or not–is affecting our bodies and neurological systems. Pick your music carefully if you want to add another element to your new healthy self.
One of the best parts of this conference is meeting new people and seeing friends from around the globe. You really should try a Peaks event someday. www.lifeatahigherlevel.com will take you to an intro page.
Til tomorrow when I hope I can catch up with the probably 8 presenters I’ve not mentioned yet.
