Did you know that? The companies currently rushing the flu vaccine to market–which means it is not thoroughly tested and proven safe–are 100% untouchable if someone falls ill from the vaccine. How is this possible? Follow the money as in lobbyists, but I’m not here to get all political on you. I’m here to ask you–if you are considering the H1N1 flu vaccine or considering giving it to your kids or grandkids–to take a look at what some medical docs have to say about it.
FIrst of all, is it necessary? The body is a marvelous self healing machine if you support it.
Second, is it safe? With manufacturers immune from any liability if something goes wrong, and being pushed by the WHO and govts like the US to rush these vaccines to market, is it possible that they might be less concerned with the safety aspect to all who might get it? They make money either way right?
Here is a list of doctors–none of whom are crazy whack job radicals–who have real evidence that this vaccine is going to be harmful to certain members of the population. At least become fully informed by both sides before you run to the nearest clinic or CVS to get your jab.

Dr. Russel Blaylock Former pediatric neurosurgeon–When you get to his site, click the link for Swine Flu Data. To hear Dr. Blaylock report on his conversations with the CDC and their no drama, no pandemic, no panic necessary estimate of the coming flu season, head over here.
For information on what to do to bolster your immunity naturally against this flu or any other take a look at my earlier post.
Get educated, protect yourself, plan to stay well not treat disease.
PS-Vitamin D, 5000 mgs per day is optimal at this time of year to help ward off flu and other viruses. For kids it’s 2000 mgs.
You might want to read this then. For some time I’ve been hearing squeaks from alternative practitioners that canola oil is not a good for you monounsaturated, flavor neutral, (I don’t like the flavor at all), all purpose oil.
After catching up with both sides of the debate, which included reading Dr. Fred Pescatore’s article “The Real Story on Canola Oil (“Can-Ugly Oil”). If you are not familiar with Dr. Pescatore, he wrote The Hamptons Diet described on his website as, “The Hamptons Diet takes the best of the Mediterranean Diet and the best of controlled carbohydrate eating and puts them together in the context of whole foods (organic whenever possible), minimally processed, nothing artificial, and with minimal use of sugar alcohols.” He also educates about monounsaturated fats, the right balance of Omega 6 – to Omega 3 fatty acids, and overall health vs weight loss.
In addition to Dr. Pescatore’s work, Dr. Mary Enig and Sally Fallon have written copious articles and books on the subject of safe and healthy fats vs the unhealthy ones, including the one you can link to above titled, The Great Con-Ola. You might be surprised to know that they have reams of proof to back up the idea that saturated fat does not kill people. And that using only monounsaturated fats with no saturates–such as those found in meat, eggs, coconut–is not only unnatural but it’s causing health problems.
Listen, canola oil–or Canadian oil, so named for the Canadian scientist who first brought it to the public eye–is a highly processed, non-nutritive version of a natural oil used for many hundreds of years in Asian countries. The modern version has too high a smoke point and as such becomes toxic with trans fats when used for sauteeing or frying. Oh, and did I say it comes with more trans fat than margarine? According to Jonny Bowden in The 150 Healthiest Foods on Earth, the Omega 3s in canola oil–usually a healthy thing–”become rancid and foul-smelling when subjected to the high temperatures needed to extract the oil. Therefore they have to be deodorized. The deodorizing process turns a large number of the omega-3 fatty acids into trans fats.”
He goes on to site a study from the U at Gainsville Florida which found trans fat levels as high as 4.6% in commercial canola oil, even more than margarine.
Then there is the genetically modified aspect. Rape seed, from which we get canola oil, was originally genetically modified to lower the amount of something called erucic acid, a fatty acid that has potentially dangerous heart health implications. With the help of Monsanto it has continued through more GM permutations to make it more commercially viable which means less healthy.
So I ask you? What’s healthy about this oil? Producing a cheap alternative to olive oil and hiring the best marketers over the years has allowed the food industry–with help from the mega empire of evil Monsanto–to put a healthy spin on a mega profitable unhealthy product.
After probably years of eating products with this unsafe oil and pouring it on salads and into muffin recipes it’s time to stop. Replace canola oil with coconut, olive, nut oils, butter, ghee etc. Found in nature, processed minimally, ahh, now that does a body good!
Many of us regularly use soy milk, tofu, tempeh, and other soy products in our diets. Maybe half of us buy an organic version.
A report on soy and its safety was recently published by the Cornucopia Institute; a group whose mission is to educate us on sustainable and organic farming. It was brought to my attention by Jonny Bowden , nutritionist par excellence. In his newsletter he writes, “By compiling information on the sourcing of soybeans, the use of toxic chemicals for soy protein extraction, and the use or avoidance of genetically modified soybeans, the Cornucopia Institute has created an Organic Soy Scorecard
that reveals which soy product companies are truly trustworthy vs. those that are not.”
The scorecard compiles data on where the soybeans are sourced from, whether the producers of the soy products are being honest in what they tell us the consumers about this, whether the beans are processed with toxic chemicals or not. Yes you read that right! And more.
The top company is Eden Foods and there are more listed in the report and ratings are given in stars. For those of you who love Trader Joe’s, the affordable gourmet markets, their products were only given 2 stars and they refused to divulge their sources for soybeans. Can’t be a good thing can it?
Shocking to me were these 4 companies, so big, so well marketed as to pretty much own the category in some instances therefore so trusted by consumers. They either buy their beans in China or refused to report sources: Pacific Natural Foods, VitaSoy USE, Westsoy/SoyDream, Silk. Dr. Bowden is not surprised and has a lot to say about these big companies. If you regularly buy these brands of soy products I encourage you to read the rest of his post. I am rethinking many of my purchases based on his information.
Soy, the way it is manufactured in this country, is a controversial as an animal protein substitute but that’s for another post. Right now I just wanted to make you all aware that some of your favorite brands of this product may be putting your health at risk–the very thing you are trying to avoid by eating soy in the first place.
If you buy soy milk, soy yogurt, soy hotdogs, etc please take a few minutes and educate yourself on what brands are best. If you don’t have time to read the report simply switch to Eden Foods or buy from local reputable producers whom you know you can trust.
