Archive for the Sassy

There are those among us who would look at the foot clothing on the left with scorn, ridicule, disbelief that a midlife woman would dare such outrageous adornment. To all of you I say “Phooey” or worse but let’s leave it at that.

I’ve always been an outrageous sock person, Pippi Longstocking-like stripes in all colors are a perennial favorite. Over the years though I’ve toned down in the interest of respectability and “age appropriate” clothing choices. A smart move and one I’ll continue to follow with one exception–my socks. I’m done with trite trouser socks. When the occasion permits I’m going back to my randy roots in raucous sock wearing.

This particular pair of day glo extreme foot fashion came into my life on a day fraught with self doubt, blisters from walking NYC’s mean streets in hot weather, and an all around funk of epic proportions. To relieve my left foot from blister hell, I purchased a kinder, gentler pair of shoes than the Luccesse boots I was wearing. Since the shoes were to be worn to a lovely lunch at David Burke’s Townhouse, I wanted understated and picked up a pair of argyles in pink and black.

These babies however were calling to me siren like from a shelf near the register. “Damn” I thought, “these babies are socks with attitude and I could use some of that right now.” Into the bag they went. Just owning them made me feel a little sassy–something that you cannot feel if you are holding on for dear life to “what is wrong.”

The socks remained in my dresser until Sunday, my day off with the hubster, a day we usually go out rather than eat in. With the malaise of a few days earlier still resident though not as heavy, I was just going to throw on some old jeans and loafers. Then I spied my socks, the day glo green and black pattern felt like an invitation to step out in sassy style. I grabbed my really great jeans, a black cashmere v-neck sweater, pulled on the socks and slipped into my boot-wanna-be comfy shoes. Just looking down at my feet–I know this is bordering on the ridiculous–gave me happiness. The malaise lifted, “what was wrong” was done in by some color and an outrageous idea–that midlife with a vengeance includes mood appropriate clothing sometimes, age be damned.

What’s your outrageous accessory? Share them and send me a photo I’ll post it in your comment so we can all be inspired by being our outrageous selves whatever form that takes.

This Valentine’s Day I decided that the hubby deserved a little more excitement than the same old heart shaped box of chocolates. Since this is a sassy women’s blog I can speak openly (and he’s 9 years younger than I) so you’ll be happy to know that indeed that category was covered but I also wanted to give him something sweet to eat. And there is just no way to talk about valentine’s day without sexual overtones is there?

Eat as in candy, or a special dessert cause he’s got a big time sweet tooth. As luck would have it I was introduced to this fortune cookie company in plenty of time to get a custom designed GIANT fortune cookie sent to him. GoodFortunes.comFortune Cookies is a custom cookie and sweets company. The fortune cookie thing is cool because you get to write whatever fortune you want and they print it up on a foot long piece of paper. It’s baked in just like a fortune cookie from your local Chinese restaurant. But this is no plain cookie. I chose one dipped in caramel and toffee bits–his two favorite flavors. And it’s huge. You can see by the photo how much bigger than the usual ones.

It was a hit to be sure and 3 days later we were still nibbling bits off of it. The cookie itself was crispy and exactly like the small ones of the best quality. I got good wife points for being creative–in the ordering category thank you–and hubby got a personal love note wrapped in caramel. And the biggest bonus for me? I didn’t have to bake it.

This company’s offerings may be my new favorite feelbetter or I Love You gifts.

I just stopped by the New Prime Time site to see what my friends Elizabeth Harrington and Barb Reindl are up to. I was so blown away by the passion and inspiring words of Elizabeth’s latest post that I wanted to let my readers know about it. Titled “This is your time to shine in 2009″ E has opened up her heart and put herself out there with some big commitments. But why not?

Why play small anymore girls? How much time do we have left to make these dreams of ours come true? I don’t mean to bring anyone down but let’s be real. Life is short and that’s always been the case as we really have no idea when we will do the big opt-out.

I’ve been doing a series of posts on setting goals you can love and this article, though not a direct goal setting article, is perfectly aligned. It speaks to your mind set, your fear factors, your heart which is where these dreams reside no?

I believe this article also appears in Network Marketing Magazine this month. Elizabeth is a regular feature author for The Network Marketing Magazine.  If you are at interested in Network Marketing, they have an AMAZING offer…best we have ever seen.  Instead of the normal $97 annual membership, they are offering membership FREE for 2009.  Click here to check out the magazine and the offer.

But I degress, take a minute or three and read what E has to say. Then pop back here and let me know how you felt reading it. Does it inspire you? Either way I’d love to know what’s big on your list for this year?
